EATERS
We’ve got it all, don’t we? The Internet, Hummers in every other garage, wealth unimaginable in any era previously. Our institutions, whether religion or secular law or the simple invisible rules that govern everyday reality, reign unchallenged. Nothing could hope to topple them, right?
Wrong.
Imagine an adversary for whom all of those are meaningless. The bonds of citizenship, law and even family cannot hold them. They are controlled neither by mental nor physical pain. They exist for one reason and one reason only.
To expand. To infect. To reproduce themselves in others. Our police are ineffective, our military is paralyzed by dependence on orders coming from on high, and our government is unable to form a unified response. The Eaters are not crippled by any of these inabilities. They act without remorse or pity or any kind of feeling, moving as one though their numbers are legion.
We got fat and happy. Now we’re the fat of the land.
Eaters is a contemporary horror/science-fiction story, set in Los Angeles where previously unknown disease/parasite is rapidly turning thousands of humans into violent and seemingly mindless predators. The story will follow three primary characters (a scientist, a SWAT officer and a petty criminal) through Los Angeles as it is gripped by fear then chaos then ultimately subjugation. The Eaters may resemble mindless ghouls at the start, but by the end of the first story arc they will be transformed into something far more terrifying, helping this book to stand out far from the rest of the pack.
There will be an emphasis on compelling characters and no-holds-barred action, punctuated by the kind of spectacle crafted to blow minds and get people saying “Did you see THIS?” to their friends. In the battle to save Los Angeles, society will do everything it can to save itself.
But in 8 days, everything won’t be enough.
